Christmas in July (Then and Now)

Carol of Just Let Me Quilt organizes some of my favorite blog hops.  One of the ironies of this hop is that I started my project during a blog hop, in which I discovered Carol's blog.  In 2017 Seams to be Sew hosted a Christmas Caroling Row along, in which each designer created a quilt pattern based on their favorite Christmas carol and released the pattern for free for a certain time period.  I think this was the first blog hop that I really followed and I downloaded all the patterns.  I was so inspired by all the designs; and still think a bout making a few of them that I haven't made yet (I guess that's part of Christmas yet to come) but I don't think anyone did my favorite Christmas Carol-I guess Silent Night is a challenge to design.  Now probably the biggest other irony is that I was so inspired by that hop but I don't generally like projects that are Christmas specific-except nativities.  When these patterns were released so many used appliqué and I'd only made one appliqué project at that point but one of the first bloggers explained it in a way that finally sunk in and I really fell in love with fusible appliqué.  This week I finally finished "Let it Snow" designed by Quilt Fabrication who will be posting tomorrow. I loved this design because I can leave it out all winter-although my husband might be quick to point out that I do have some Christmas decorations up all year anyhow (that's part of why I like projects that are not specific to Christmas).

Now Carol's directions for us said we could include a project from then or from now, so I started to think about the earlier Christmas projects.  Not long after started quilting I decided to make a Christmas quilt-this is how far I made it...
After Christmas 2016 I decided I wanted a nice card holder and made this one.  It doesn't show well but the squares on the sides and bottom are pockets to hold cards.
Last Christmas I made this snow man quilt from Fat Cat Patterns for my aunt and started a second one that will eventually get finished for myself.
And after Christmas I made this quilt that will be finished for a Christmas yet to come.
Be sure to visit the other bloggers and see all of their Christmas projects too.

  17. What a lovely complement to the row along designers. Thank you for great complement you made about the row along and following that year. I think Silent Night didn't get chosen because the song my have still been copyrighted. We could only do public domain Christmas songs for the row along. My favorite also is nativities at Christmas and we did have quite a few of those in that year's row along. Your projects are lovely and your Christmas yet to come is a wonderful phrase for those gifts that are yet to be made.
