Red is not my favorite color to work with so I almost didn't participate in this blog hop. Then I realized that I was working on a Pinocchio quilt and his pants are definitely red!
A young lady in my church got engaged in November of last year. I've gotten pretty close to her family over the past few years so I wanted to make them a quilt, but they didn't give me a lot of time to make a quilt as their wedding was February 2. The ceremony was for immediate family only, with a reception this past Sunday, so I did have a little extra time to finish their quilt and I was so glad I did! Her family are huge Disney fans and I had this panel for a while before I figured out what I wanted to do with it. Because I needed this project to be finished quickly I decided to sew strips of the colors of Pinocchio's clothing and arrange the panel parts around the center. I actually pieced the entire top in one afternoon. That night we watched the movie because I wanted a quote for the label. My quilting is all straight line.

On the label I wrote "may you always remember your marriage is the answer to a dream (a wish your hearts made) and not a string to tie you down," to incorporate two quotes from the movie. At the reception, her mom asked them to open my present (she knew I'd made them a quilt) and I love this picture of the three of them reading the label.
I have made one other project that I really view as being a red project for one of my best friends. We've been friends since first grade and I got it in my head when we were 35 that I needed to mark 30 years of friendship with a quilt. I finished it and gave her just before we turned 37. While red is not my color, it's her favorite and sometimes friendship means focussing on the things the other one likes. I loved that the panels in this one show children at play because when we became friends that's what we were, now her kids are quickly outgrowing that stage and it makes me sentimental!
